The Role of Multimedia Corpora in Improving EFL Learners’ Interpreting
Abstract
Nowadays, the field of interpreter training has many flaws. Most translators do written translations; and the universities and related educational centers have focused on translator training; consequently, there are few efficient and skilled interpreters. In recent years, many researchers and scholars have welcomed applying the corpora in language teaching and translator training. However, compared to translator training, more research studies have been carried out in the area of language teaching. We can incorporate and make use of the corpora in the area of interpreter training, too. For this purpose, the online Backbone corpus was used in this study. At first, the undergraduate students of English translation were taught to use and work with the mentioned corpus. Second, they were asked to make use of this corpus in learning and practicing interpreting and then give their ideas and express their experience of learning interpreting by making use of this online corpus. In this study, the efficiency of using the corpora in learning interpreting was evaluated.Published
