Anthropological Approaches to the Concept of Translation

Abstract

Anthropology‏ ‏has long focused on the interrelations between culture, language and thought. The ‎important point is that the practice of discipline of anthropology is fundamentally a translation, a ‎translation from one language to another or from a cultural experience to another. The question is ‎whether such a linguistic relativity allows the translation of one culture into another. In the absence of ‎words in the target culture, can they be interpreted? In the light of the contributions of pioneers of ‎anthropology and the new anthropologists and given that the language is a historic fact in a constant ‎change, it seems that the main goal of translation is not reduced to render a copy of the original ‎language. The translation is constantly interpreted and reinterpreted conforming to the requirements ‎of the new historical context.‎
