The State of Interpreting Studies in Iran: An Overview of Papers and Theses
Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study on research in the field of interpreting from 2000 to 2015. A compendium was developed based on 17 articles (in English & Persian) gathered from three major translation and interpreting (T/I) journals and on twenty-four theses from thirteen universities. Inspired from a previous study in the field, this study conducted a thematic analysis to generate a descriptive map of the field in Iran. Studies were generally classified into three inter-related themes: interpreting practice, interpreter training and assessment, and review of interpreting research. Proportions of studies in each category and sub-category were shown, accompanied by a discussion of representative studies in each category. The findings of the present study may help the Iranian contributors to the field to pay more attention to interpreting research and training.Published
