Text Type and Coherence from a Systemic Functional Perspective: A Case Study of Translation Students’ Knowledge of LCPs in Political News
Abstract
This study attempts to investigate the role of lexical cohesion in the translation of political news from English into Persian. It also investigates the relationship between translation students’ language proficiency and their ability to render Lexical Cohesion Patterns (LCPs) in political news translation. The subjects were students of translation at Azad and Payam-e Noor Universities (Boroujerd Branch). They were selected based on the Oxford Placement Test (OPT) and were placed in three different groups of elementary, intermediate, and advanced level. The subjects were given political news items containing different LCPs to translate. The findings showed that there was a direct relationship between the students’ language proficiency and their performance on LCPs.Published
