From Certainty to Uncertainty: Parallels Between General Science and Translation Studies

چکیده

این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که با یافته‌های علمی جدید در قرن بیستم، چگونه مفاهیم و نظریه‌های قطعیت‌محور در علوم عمومی مانند فیزیک جای خود را به مفاهیم و نظریه‌های عدم‌قطعیت‌محور دادند. این پژوهش همچنین نشان می‌دهد که سیر تکاملی نظریه‌های مطالعات ترجمه بسیار مشابه سیر تکاملی مفاهیم و نظریه‌های رشته‌های علوم عمومی است. همان گونه که در اوایل قرن بیستم پایۀ علومی مانند فیزیک و اخترشناسی بر قطعیت و پیش‌بینی استوار بود، نظریه‌ها و مفاهیم بنیادی مطالعات ترجمه نیز در سال‌های تکوینی آن بر قطعیت و پیش‌بینی استوار بودند. نمونۀ بارز آن را در نظریه‌های کاملاً مبتنی بر تعادل ترجمه‌ای و خوش‌بینی بیش‌ازحد به ترجمۀ ماشینی در دهه‌های 1950 و 1960، که کارکرد آن تاحد زیادی مبتنی بر ریاضیات و منطق ارسطویی بود، می‌توان دید. از سوی دیگر، همان گونه که یافته‌هایی جدید در رشته‌هایی مانند مکانیک کوانتومْ اصل قطعیت را زیر سؤال برد، با ورود مفاهیم پیچیدۀ سیاسی، اجتماعی، استعماری، پسااستعماری و غیره به نظریه‌های ترجمه، قطعیت جای خود را عدم‌ قطعیت داد تاحدی‌که اکنون عدم‌قطعیت از پارادایم‌های اصلی ترجمه است. در پایان، این پژوهش گوشزد می‌کند که خطری که پارادایم عدم‌قطعیت را در ترجمه تهدید می‌کند پرداختن به نظریه‌های مختلف عدم‌قطعیت به‌طور جداگانه و بدون ایجاد ارتباط بین آنهاست.
