A Meta-analytical Critique of Antoine Berman’s Retranslation Hypothesis

چکیده

مقالة پیش‌‌رو به بررسی نظام‌مند و فراتحلیلی فرضیۀ بازترجمۀ برمن می‌پردازد. به این منظور، نمونه‌ای معرف از پژوهش‌های تجربی مرتبط صورت گرفته در سه دهۀ گذشته گردآوری شد. این مجموعه شامل چهارده پژوهش است که در مکان‌های مختلف و بین جفت‌های زبانی مختلف انجام شده است. نتایج نشان داد که حدود 60 درصد پژوهش‌ها این فرضیه را نقض و 40 درصد دیگر آن را تأیید کردهاند. به‌علاوه، نتایج تمام این پژوهش‌ها حاکی از آن است که بازترجمه نه صرفاً به دلیل «کهنهشدن» ترجمۀ اول، بلکه تحت تاثیر عوامل مهم دیگری نظیر هنجارهای ادبی مبدأ و مقصد، هنجارهای ترجمه، ایدئولوژی، نگرش و تجربۀ مترجم، و ارتباطات سیاسی-اجتماعی صورت می‌پذیرد. همچنین، نتایج فراتحلیل نشان داد که برمن ظاهرا تأثیر دو عامل مهم در شکل‌گیری بازترجمه را نادیده گرفته است: نوع متن، و قابلیت (باز)تفسیرهای متعدد از متن. در پرتو یافته‌های موجود، ادعای برمن مبنی بر صورت گرفتن بازترجمه در اثر «نقص» ترجمۀ اول با چالش‌های اساسی روبه‌رو است.
